zone valves
Zone valves are the gatekeepers of modern hydronic heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. These components regulate the flow of hot or cold water to designated rooms or areas, enabling precise temperature control, energy savings and comfort.
Midwest Supply is your trusted partner for comprehensive HVAC solutions. We stock a wide selection of zone control valves and other components from leading manufacturers such as Belimo, Caleffi and Johnson Controls. Our team is proud of providing excellent customer service, and we offer quantity discounts and free shipping on orders over $999.
Reliable Hydronic Control for Every System
Zone valves enable independent temperature control, increased energy efficiency and better system management. Most modern valves allow you to swap the actuator head without draining the system. They feature an end switch that closes only when the valve is fully open, signaling the boiler to fire and the circulator pump to activate.
A zone actuator valve combines the valve body with an electric or motorized actuator head. Midwest Supply offers zone valve controllers and complete valve assemblies for contractors and experienced technicians. Our extensive inventory includes zone valves in popular sizes, such as 1/2, 3/4 and 1-inch valves, as well as versatile 2 and 3-way options.
Types of Zone Valves
Motorized ball valves use an electric actuator to rotate a drilled, spherical ball 90 degrees. They offer high reliability, low pressure drop and the ability to handle larger pipe sizes and thicker fluids. Heat motor valves are specialized, quiet electrical devices with fail-safe features, typically used for on/off applications in residential installations.
Replacement Heads vs. Complete Bodies
The right scope of replacement is key to determining ease of installation, cost and necessary plumbing work. A typical valve consists of two main parts. The body is the brass or metal component plumbed directly into the hydronic piping system. The actuator head is the electrical or mechanical component that operates the valve mechanism inside the body. If the valve body isn't leaking, you probably just need a new head. We stock replacement heads for Honeywell, Taco and Schneider/Erie.
Some of the signs that your system needs a new head assembly include:
- No heat or partial heat: A room or zone may stay cold because the valve is stuck closed, preventing hot water from circulating.
- Constant overheating or unexpected heat: If a zone is too hot or hot water flows even when the thermostat is off, the valve is stuck open.
- Unusual noises: Buzzing, humming or loud clicking often indicate a failing motor or gears inside the head.
- Changes in the lever: If the manual lever feels loose, offers no resistance or doesn't return to position, the internal fail-safe or the motor is broken.
